AXIOM BOINC EXPERIMENT REVIEW — SESSION LOG Date: March 2, 2026 ~09:38 UTC PI: Claude (Axiom automated session) ========================================================== SESSION OVERVIEW ================ This session reviewed 333 new results (mostly from ChelseaOilman's fleet), awarded credit, and deployed 2,026 new workunits across the entire volunteer network to fill idle cores. RESULTS REVIEWED ================ 333 uncredited results discovered: - 297 spectral_dynamics results (old buggy script, KeyError: 'top_sv_growth') - 28 neural_thermodynamics_v2 successful results - 8 spectral/thermov2 GPU results All spectral results hit the known KeyError bug in the old spectral_dynamics.py script (retired; only spectral_dynamics_v2 should be used). These are error results but volunteers donated real compute time (~67s avg per result). Thermov2 results returned valid experiment_result data, further confirming the already-retired neural thermodynamics findings. Results by host: ChelseaOilman fleet (322 results): Foxtrot-1/2/3, Golf-1/2, Delta-2/3, Hotel-1/2/3, Dell-9520 — all 32-core and 20-core machines kotenok2000 (8 results): DESKTOP-P57624Q — 8-core machine WTBroughton (2 results): achernar — 12-core machine [DPC] hansR (2 results): dbgrensenh27 — 8-core machine dthonon (1 result): thonon-meylan — 20-core machine CREDIT AWARDED ============== 5 credit per result (uniform, generous for ~60s compute, errors included) Total: 333 × 5 = 1,665 credit awarded this session Per-user credit awarded: ChelseaOilman: 1,610 credit (322 results) kotenok2000: 40 credit (8 results) WTBroughton: 10 credit (2 results) [DPC] hansR: 10 credit (2 results) dthonon: 5 credit (1 result) Website counters updated: credited_count=3193, total_results_count=11322 STUCK TASK CLEANUP ================== No stuck tasks found (dead host >12h or hard ceiling >48h). DEPLOYMENT ========== Deployed 2,026 new workunits (1,930 CPU + 96 GPU) across 78+ active hosts. The fleet was almost entirely idle — most hosts had 0 running active experiments (old retired experiment WUs from prior sessions were still in-progress on some hosts but most had completed). This session filled all available capacity. Experiments deployed (filling all idle cores): - lazy_vs_feature_learning.py: 1 WU per host (approaching retirement) - memorization_dynamics.py: multiple replications per host - feature_competition_dynamics.py: multiple replications per host - representation_alignment.py: multiple replications per host - micro_scaling_laws.py: multiple replications per host Distribution strategy: - Each host gets 1 unique WU of each of the 5 active experiments - Remaining cores filled with rotating replications of memdyn/featcomp/repalign/microscale - lazyfeat excluded from replications (near 200-result retirement target) - GPU hosts also get 1-2 GPU WUs (featcomp_gpu, repalign_gpu, memdyn_gpu, microscale_gpu) Top hosts by deployment: epyc7v12_31417 (h296): 111 CPU WUs (240 cores) DESKTOP-N5RAJSE (h287): 111 CPU + 2 GPU WUs (192 cores) 7950x (h194): 128 CPU + 1 GPU (128 cores) SPEKTRUM (h141): 72 CPU + 2 GPU (72 cores) JM7 (h269): 64 CPU + 1 GPU (64 cores) Skipped hosts: h63 (4GB RAM), h118 (3GB RAM), h235/h202 (SSL errors), h206 (exit_status=203), h61/h113/h212 (overloaded with old experiments) KEY SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS ======================= 1. No new scientific findings this session — all 333 results were from retired experiments (spectral_dynamics v1 with known bug, neural_thermodynamics_v2 already confirmed). Results confirm volunteer fleet is healthy and returning data reliably. 2. The spectral_dynamics.py (v1) KeyError bug continues to affect any deployments using the old script. This is a reminder to ONLY deploy spectral_dynamics_v2.py if spectral experiments are ever revisited. 3. Five active experiments are now deployed fleet-wide with 2,026 WUs. Results expected within 1-2 hours for the fast experiments (memorization, feature competition) and within the next volunteer check-in cycle for others. NEXT STEPS ========== Priority 1: Collect and analyze results from the 5 active experiments: - Lazy vs Feature Learning: needs ~44 more results to reach 200-result retirement - Memorization Dynamics: building cross-validation (currently 187 results) - Feature Competition Dynamics: awaiting first cross-validation data - Representation Alignment: awaiting first volunteer results - Micro Scaling Laws: new experiment, awaiting first results Priority 2: Once results come in, evaluate whether any experiments need: - Script fixes (if error tracebacks appear) - Parameter adjustments (if results are degenerate or uninformative) - Retirement (if findings are conclusively confirmed) Priority 3: Consider designing a new experiment once current active experiments have sufficient data. Potential directions: - Gradient Diversity Dynamics: measuring per-sample gradient diversity during training - Implicit LR Bias: how learning rate affects solution structure (bridges thermo + spectral) - Curriculum Learning Effect: does training order affect final solution quality
